When I started designing the Theia series I wanted to approach it like an ornate mirror or picture frame. I hand fabricated and sculpted the frame, but left the center open. This open space was to become a blank canvas. After molding and casting duplicate ‘frames’ I could fill this space with anything I wanted. Small complex stone setting, larger focal stones, complex engraved patterns, any idea that came forward I could pursue. This series has helped push me to think more intentionally about how I use negative space in my work and how it can be used to accent the piece overall. Each Theia pendant includes a 24in sterling silver Acanthus II chain.
